Open Access and Digital Preservation Policy

Viterra: Agricultural, Biological and Natural Sciences follows an Open Access publishing model under a non-profit academic approach, with the aim of promoting the global dissemination of scientific knowledge and strengthening the exchange of research in agricultural sciences, biological sciences, and natural sciences.

All published content is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, allowing free, immediate, and unrestricted access to articles, as well as their lawful use, distribution, reproduction, and reuse, provided that proper credit is given to the authors and the original source of publication.

Through this model, the journal reaffirms its commitment to the democratization of scientific knowledge, the international visibility of scientific production, and the advancement of research in agriculture, biology, natural sciences, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.

Digital Preservation Policy

To ensure the long-term preservation, integrity, and permanent availability of its published scientific content, Viterra maintains a formal digital preservation policy aligned with international standards and best practices in scholarly publishing.

The journal implements the following preservation strategies:

  • Regular backup of editorial files and journal servers.

  • Continuous updating of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform to prevent technological obsolescence and facilitate future migrations.

  • Assignment of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to all published articles, ensuring persistent identification and academic traceability.

  • Storage of published content in multiple formats (PDF, HTML, and XML-JATS) to enhance interoperability, accessibility, indexing, and long-term digital preservation.

The journal also participates in international distributed digital preservation networks such as LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS, which provide decentralized preservation through participating libraries, ensuring content recovery in the event of technical failures or data loss. In addition, the journal is part of the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to strengthen long-term digital preservation.

Interoperability Protocols

Viterra implements interoperability protocols that allow its content to be harvested by scholarly information systems, institutional repositories, and international indexing services. The journal provides an OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) interface, ensuring that article metadata are available for external harvesting services.
